Banished from the City

This week was pretty normal, except for one large change. I guess that was a huge oxymoron. That's probably fine! It's always been a rumor that Viborg would open as it's own area soon, which has been awkward for us in Skive on whether we should actually have it ready for new people or just keep plugging along. But the day has come! And also gone now too.

Monday was a pretty relaxed, normal day. I talked about that in the last email which is really getting awkward that I keep bringing that kind of a thing up... Anyway, it was good though!

Tuesday was basically the last day in Viborg. We were told that the Sisters were arriving on Wednesday, so we basically just spent the day there preparing everybody to switch to some extremely caring and sincere missionaries, instead of some teenage boys who are running around. ;) It was way good though! We basically tried contacting every former investigator in the area, had meetings with Jacob and Rune, and then an eating appointment with Birgit! It was a very, extremely productive day! We also stopped by Elna (after she burned our appointment) and she said it was a bad time. But we could tell something was up, so we just talked to her. She basically just started crying and told us that she's just overwhelmed with all the crazy things going on in her life. First off, I'm really awkward around crying women. Second off, we're two teenage boys running around trying to bring people the gospel. But we felt very strongly like she needed a Priesthood Blessing. So Ældste Haruch gave her a blessing, and she really just looked lighter afterward. It was incredible. She said it was very comforting and helpful. We then made an appointment with her (for the Sisters).

Wednesday was our first splits this transfer!! I miss splits, honestly. It's just way fun having so many people around. Ældste Schaffer and Ældste Danielsen-Jensen came to Skive! They helped us knock out (punny!) an area called Vinde. We got quite a few potentials from that. Then we had a fancy cheese and bread night, after I made some Chicken Parmesan. but we only had mozzarella cheese, so Ældste Schaffer helped with the sauce to make it actually work. But that was the first meal I'd actually made for multiple people, so I was quite proud. We also learned that the Sisters were coming on Thursday, so that was good to know.

Thursday was our District Meeting in Herning. We drove down with the other Elders and were surprised to see that the Viborg Sisters had beaten us there! They had left Holbæk (on Sjælland) early to make it to District Meeting! They're Søster Smith (in Ældste Haruch's group) and Søster Hansen (who just got in the land this transfer). But they're way cool! We then had a great district meeting and such. But the Viborg Sisters had to leave early to meet the Forslunds in Viborg. So we weren't able to give them their stuff because the boundaries weren't actually decided yet... But then Ældste Schaffer made the decision after they left, so we had to awkwardly decide what to do for them. Basically we called them that evening to fill them in until we could give them the rest on Sunday at church!

Friday was December 1st. And as such, it was really cold. Just luckily not as cold as Sweden. (Sorry Elder Francis!) We were out knocking an area though, and we met with a man named Morten. He is quite the interesting guy. He invited us in to talk but seemed like he just wanted to bash. He called us morons and idiots quite a few times, but always apologized and asked more questions. It was basically the weirdest first lesson ever, but he was quite interested and wanted to learn more. We invited him to close with prayer, but didn't finish teaching how we pray before he started. It was hilarious! He offered a great prayer, but didn't close it. We then explained that we close in the name of Jesus Christ and he bowed his head as if he was going to close his prayer correctly. But he didn't... We sat there awkwardly for quite a while until eventually all three of us looked up at each other. Morten then said "What?!" and we all just busted up laughing. It was great! So we set an appointment and then escaped out into the fresh air. (He smokes.)

Saturday was the day of testimony. Living in Utah, you don't always see the benefits or results of the Word of Wisdom. I will promise you all. The Word of Wisdom is amazing!! It's honestly so nice that we don't have to deal with all the negativity that come with so many bad substances! But before we returned to Morten, we met with Ali. That was an awkward meeting. We were trying to teach the Restoration, but he kept asking us questions! I've never had that problem before. He really just wants to know everything! We're just trying to do our best in steering him towards the Book of Mormon to answer them. After Ali, we went to Morten's house. It was also awkward, but differently. We wanted to teach the Restoration as well, but he was very focused on the fact that he didn't have any cigarettes so he had us walk with him to the store. But then we had to leave, so we told him we'd come back. Then I died. His front room is literally toxic to the human lungs. I don't know how we could breath in there, it must be a spiritual gift for missionaries or something. We taught as best we could, but I had a searing headache the rest of the evening. We also had to wash our clothes after that because they just smelled like cigarette smoke. But he does still want to learn more, we're just going to be meeting in a place with some better ventilation.

Sunday was way exciting! As soon as the Sisters walked into the church, they were swarmed by tons of old people! It was honestly hilarious. Søster Dietch had actually called us earlier to make sure we'd introduce them to everyone, but that was certainly not a problem. And Ali came to church again, and stayed for Sunday School!! After church, we visited Minna again. She's going to the hospital in Aalborg on Tuesday to see if she needs an operation. Hopefully it goes well for her, so we're definitely praying for her. She was very happy that day though, so it was great to see her. She is such a spiritual giant! I love visiting her and hearing her testimony! It's like a missionary visit for us!!

Monday rolled around again, somehow. I feel like it was just barely last week. We spent our day at Himmelbjerg for our District Activity! It was way pretty! It was supposedly the highest point in Denmark, but it's actually not... But it has a wonderful forest that we walked through. We ate lunch sitting by the tower, and then played charades by the Hotel Himmelbjerg where we gave out some left over cake to random people, along with some Light the World cards too! It was great!! Once back in our beloved Skive, we went finding and followed up with a man named Kasper. We first knocked on Kasper's door, but he didn't answer, so we knocked a little area just around the corner. We knocked about six doors, and four of them were happy to talk to us!! It was astounding!! The first lady, Kamille, loves families and believes somewhat in an afterlife. Then we met Simon, who is a brand new dad and said "if there was a way to live with my family forever, why not?!" It was awesome!! Then another lady opened the door, but didn't have time to talk, so she said to come back next week! And to top it off, we then knocked on a door where a lady was on the phone with her brother who literally just had a daughter born!! She loves families and promised us that she would read in the Book of Mormon and give us a call. (We also have her contact information) It was INCREDIBLE!! People are just the best!! And to top it all off, we ran out of copies of Mormons Bog so we couldn't give Kasper one when he wanted it! It was way awkward, but he still wants to get one!! It was honestly just a fantabulous evening!!

So my spiritual thought for this week is thankfulness! Especially coming right from seeing how many people can be blessed by the message of Eternal Happiness with you family, I realize more and more that we have so much. We really do have the truth that so many people are deeply wishing they could have! It's incredible!! So be thankful for this truth that gives so much comfort and peace! And then make sure other people get a hold of this too! They really do want it, whether they know it now or not! It's too amazing to pass up.

Thank you for all your support though! I apologize that my time is short today, so my responses to personal emails will have to wait... I'm very sorry. I still love you all, don't worry! I'll get back to you! Keep being the amazing examples you are!
