Well, the
title basically explains itself. That is, if you're a missionary from Frederikshavn who is being told why Esbjerg got its name by a member from
Esbjerg who you aren't actually sure is telling you a true story... So
obviously, it's transfers again! And Jyllands Kong (King of Jylland) lives
another 6 weeks to go to Esbjerg! I'm now companions with Ældste Sam Jensen,
who is from California. He's a super cool Elder and I'm really excited to work
with him!
Monday was
crazy! It was our District Activity to Skagen!! We took the train up and then
walked along the beach to the very tip, stopping by bunkers to explore and
dodge the rain. But then it turned into a crazy rainstorm at the tip! Luckily,
we got picked up by Ældste Ellis' grandparents who drove us back to
Frederikshavn. It was super fun and really pretty! There were a couple bunkers
that were right up against the waves, so it was pretty daring to climb into
them. ;) That evening, we went knocking and did stop by's. Nothing too special
there.
Tuesday went
great! We did a lot of finding, which included Haldbjerg! We biked out to the
farthest house in the little town and then basically made our way down the
hill. One guy, named Søren, talked to us for a while but didn't want anything
even though he was "Christian." But a few houses later, he called us
and asked us to come back and give him a Mormons Bog! We gladly did so and he
said he'd start reading it! So that was a cool experience.
Wednesday
was District Council! We basically had an end of transfer review and discussed
the importance of our calling. After we got back from Aalborg, we had studies
and headed to Choir. It was pretty fun, and then we headed to Floorball
afterwards! And Steinar came! It was a pretty physically demanding game, which
was actually super fun! I may have scored on Kasper Kristensen a couple times,
which took quite a bit of chasing him down.
Thursday was
an interesting day. We drove out to meet with Mathias again, but this time we
had Kurt along with us! It was really good! He said he'd start reading in
Mormons Bog and wanted to come to church on Sunday! We also have really fun
conversations with him over the phone, so it's a good gig. We got home and also
had an eating appointment with Jacob Holm Larsen. It was pretty hyggeligt and
fun. He also gave us a ton of free meat! After that, we went knocking before we
had another eating appointment with the Tofts! They made some incredible
hamburgers!
Friday
rolled around and we had a language study with Hans Christian again! (I got a
picture with him this time too! So tune in next week when I don't forget my
camera at home!) We also had to figure out some danish bills for Ældste Ellis'
Rejsekort, (travel card) which took an annoyingly large amount of time. But we
had a lesson with Michael that evening! It was really cool! He had read up to
Nephi 18 in the past two weeks and had questions about it! He also wants to
come to church and institute, but has a harder time with scheduling it. He's
really improving with the Word of Wisdom though, which is incredible! After
teaching him, we did some more knocking which included discussing my sister's
wish to get a King Charles Spaniel dog. (nudge Dad!)
Saturday was
really weird! We had transfer calls, which revealed that I was leaving and I
needed to pass the area fully on to Ældste Ellis. We taught Zibar, which went
quite well. He is committed to being baptized, he's just battling the urge to
smoke. He has committed to daily scripture reading though, which will really
help him! Once he found out I was leaving, he said he'd pick me up more Turkish
Delight, but we changed the deal to him coming to church!! After we did a lot
of finding, some packing (mostly frantically at night), and our weekly
planning! That was basically the day.
Sunday came
along and I said goodbye to all my good Frederikshavn friends! It was actually
pretty sad. There were a lot of members that I didn't feel like I knew very
well who just thanked me for being a good missionary. That was quite touching
to me. We also had Diana, Zefadi, and Dian again in church! We were hoping for
Zibar, but he got called in to his driving school to order his next driving
test. But those three really liked it and we had an awesome Guest class! We're
meeting again with them this week, which will be great! After church, I tried
to get as many pictures with members as possible, and then we ate with Kurt and
Liselotte. It was really fun! The rest of the day was a couple stop by's,
packing, and studies.
My spiritual
thought from the week is honestly just from Sunday. There was one little girl,
Amelie Toft (Ah-meel-ee-ah) who, when she heard I was leaving, said "Noo!
You can't leave, you're a good missionary!" Just simply that response made
the entire five months of work worth it. Children are easily teachable. It
meant the world to me that she, even at her age, could recognize that I've been
putting my all into the work. Christ teaches that we must become as little
children, which in this instance, means to take notice of others and compliment
them. Though it wasn't anything earth-shattering, it was a huge deal for me. So
take time for other people. Show them you care! And it will pay off!
I hope you
all have a wonderful week! To all those who skim through the letter, please
enjoy the cool pictures of Skagen!! (Northern most tip of Denmark)

(P.S.
Apparently Esbjerg was named because people built little salt shacks on top of
a hill in order to do something related to the fishing market. I'm not actually
sure if that's true, nor does it make sense to me, so... yup!)
