Ældsternes Ø (The Elder's Island)

This was an interesting week! There's not much more comforting than knowing that if you get lost, your companion is also probably lost so you just have to figure it out and ask random people in order to sleep in your own bed that night. It's surprisingly de-stressing. (I was pretty sure that was an English word, but this computer disagrees, so...)

Monday: Transfer Day! Obviously, within all logic, I had to leave at 5:30 in the morning with all four of the Esbjerg missionaries and travel all the way north to Aarhus in order to drop off Ældste Bailey, then take a different train from there over to København (Copenhagen). Basically, everyone was tired, but we all made it there alive. Also, lots of luggage, everywhere. Once I got into KBH, the Nykøbing Falster Sisters (one of which simply switched areas with Ældste Throckmorton) drove Ældste Throckmorton and I over to Amager (pronounced like "I'm Iro(n)") and basically dropped us off. Then we were on our own! They had pointed out the library and showed us which keys were for which lock/door, then we figured everything else out! Monday was thus just hectic. We basically went contacting to find stores we needed, but luckily talked with a cool guy named Henrik who had met missionaries before (likes us, but isn't interested in learning more). Then we spent some time fixing the bikes which haven't been used for months, which also required store contacting for some bike patches. And then we biked to the library to email to end the day.

Tuesday, we contacted over to the church to see what it was like. Also bought some more parts for the bikes. Then we basically called everyone we could from the Area Book. We got a hold of quite a few people and set up appointments and such. Then we went and bought some food for the week and finished off by contacting. Basically our little island is a ton of tall apartment buildings at the top and then turns to houses as you bike southward. We also have the airport on the east side of the island, which takes a lot of space, but is surprisingly quiet.

On Wednesday we had a lesson with Emil, who is a 33 yr old man who lived with a part-member family in Texas for a couple years. Currently he is having a problem smoking, but wants to be baptized. His plan is to quit by 35, but he also agreed it won't be problematic to stop earlier. ;) He wants to be taught in English, so we're going to ease him into Danish so he feels more comfortable in a Danish branch. We testified about the Atonement of Christ, and the Spirit was quite strong in the lesson. He accepted to try and read Mormons Bog instead of smoking, and also to try dipping a cigarette in milk (apparently tastes worse?). We also had another appointment with a lady and a member. But we were waiting at the church and the member, Palle Foss, came but the lady didn't. Then to end the evening, we ate at our Mission Leader's house, Torben (and Vicki) Valgren. He's Danish and she's English. It was fun.

Thursday was mostly a finding day. We were out contacting and knocking! The Sisters had a knocking book, but they usually contacted, so we pretty much have the entire island we can freely knock! We were down in Lufthavnsparken, and may or may not have accidentally biked all the way to the airport's doors... But we didn't go inside, don't worry.

Friday was District Council at the office! It's been about a year since I've been there, so that was weird. We biked over there in record timing as well (about 20 minutes). We have an awesome District! Ældste Wright as District Leader with Ældste Moulton both in Frederiksberg, Ældste Haruch and Ældste Steffensen in Taastrup, Søster Tanner and Søster Peel in Rødovre, and Ældste Gottfredson and Ældste Kreuger on Bornholm (they just Skype in though). After the meeting, we biked back home and did some great knocking out in Postparken. We're consistently finding potentials, so that's good!

Saturday was pretty open as well. We were out contacting, which usually turns into walking down new streets, talking with as many people that are there, and then trying to find our way back home from there. We keep finding new, big, and cool apartment buildings. Sadly, a lot of them are locked, which makes it hard to knock. We also had Weekly Planning, which was mostly a calling session.

Sunday was exciting! There were quite a few members who didn't know we were switching out the sisters, so it was a surprise! We were often complimented about our Danish, so that was a plus! Our branch is about 30-40 people without any missionaries. Then we have 10 missionaries! Only Ældste Throckmorton and I are under 20 though. The others include Ældste and Søster Gleason (shout out to Brad Clayson for being known by your Stake President!) who are serving in the Mission office, Ældste and Søster Wolfgramm who are in the temple, Ældste and Søster Sorensen also in the temple, and a couple other married couple missionaries in the temple mission. The branch is mostly older members, but we have some young families and then one newly married couple who are really cool! After church, President Henrik Olsen (our branch president) took us home (to Ballerup) for dinner. It was super fun! He's married to Hanne Korsgaard who is the daughter of Verner and Inge(?) Korsgaard from Skive! Ældste and Søster Gleason also came along, which was nice because they could drive us home. After we got back, we did some stop by's on Postparken and knocked some more. T'was good! Also had a phone call from a guy who didn't want to meet because "the black night is over" but after talking he said we could meet sometime but he was busy so he'd have to let us know. (#DaleCarnegie)

Spiritual Thought: This week has been just giving my all, and honestly that's super relaxing! As we've done our best to talk to people and get to know everything we can, we are able and blessed to ask the Lord to strengthen us! I haven't been worried about not knowing the area, because I know that as long as I do my best, then everything will work according to God's plan. It's been really fun and faith building, as life should be! There are things we need to do, so do your best and you'll be blessed!

I hope you all have a wonderful week! I also hope you have some random snow storms like we had today, snowing but not too cold (basically the best)!
