Steak Conference

Most people would assume that "Steak Conference" is simply a misconception that missionaries don't think to explain to people when they come to church. But in reality, it's just a good description of the past week for us!

Monday was delicious! We did all the normal stuff like buying food. We also had an appointment with an Indian man who was interesting. He told us his name, but I honestly didn't catch it. But he was very nice and talked about how he believes we all need to take care of each other, which required at least 4 stories to illustrate his point. Immediately after that, we biked as fast as possible to Flammen in Frederiksberg to celebrate Ældste Moulton's 20th Birthday! Flammen is a quite fancy restaurant which I've never been to before, but it was good! It's a meat buffet which is kind of like a Tuchanoes, from what I'm told. (A little less fancy than the Texas-Brazil BBQ in SLC) It was really good! So that's where the Steak came into play this week! My favorite was probably Ribeye or duck. (I've strangely grown a love for good tasting duck on a mission.)

Tuesday included the normal, weekly necessities. Physical Therapy! So we walked a lot that morning and had some fun talking with college students. This time, Ældste Throckmorton was given a large elastic band to take home and exercise with to strengthen the muscle. It's helping thusfar, so that's good! After some normal finding activities again, we had Branch Council meeting! We usually only go if Torben (Mission Leader) can't, but he wasn't sure he could get back from Sweden in time. (He was visiting his first grandchild in Sweden, so it was a great reason!)

Wednesday was splits with Frederiksberg! I was with Ældste McBride in Frederiksberg, which turned out to be quite exciting! We got an assignment as the "Office Elders" to figure out how to connect an iPad to the projector, but after searching the entire office for any type of lighting adapter, we determined that we needed to purchase something that would connect to the world of Apple products. We had a lesson in the church, which went fairly well even though the woman we taught wasn't too excited about being baptized again, she took the Law of Chastity in stride. We then had an eating appointment with a member who the Elders hadn't ever met, nor could remember how the appointment was made. But we showed up to Troels Jepsen's house (I was stoked because we had the same name), and we apparently had the time wrong, so we were two hours early... We didn't believe it was actually my nametag, and asked where I had gotten a Jepsen tag, but we just came back later to eat with him. A bit out of character for me, I asked if Andreas Jepsen meant anything to him. He said yes! Andreas is his great-great-great-great (or something) grandfather's brother, who joined the church and then emigrated to the USA! And thus we learned that we're family!! Troels also served a mission in Pocatello Idaho, which is where Ældste McBride comes from! So basically, divine intervention 100% set up an eating appointment with the two missionaries Troels needed to meet! (We're trying to scheme that I can come again on splits and meet him and his parents again to talk a bit more.)

Thursday included a crazy morning of switching companions and then heading off to a lesson with Rasmus (who we met last Thursday). He is astoundingly interested and religious! He listened intently and asked good questions! We taught quite a bit of almost all the lessons before we realized we'd taken up an hour and a half. He's super cool and wants to meet again, so we're really excited! He was also happy to receive his own copy of Mormons Bog. (And fun side note, he's friends with Mikkel who did exercised while we taught him!)

Friday was another All Mission Conference! We were visited by President Paul Johnson and Elder Tunnicliffe. It was pretty good. It was also fun to talk with the missionaries serving in the areas I had to see how people were doing.

Saturday included weekly planning, as usual. We also had a lesson with a man named Alf. He had met with the Sisters beforehand, but simply lost contact with them. We were able to track him down and make an appointment. We reviewed Joseph Smith's First Vision and the purpose of Mormons Bog. The Spirit was extremely strong and we pointed it out to him, which he clearly could feel. He gladly accepted to read daily in order to feel the same peace and strength from the Holy Ghost. After the amazing lesson, Ældste Throckmorton and I were just astounded! It was so simple and powerful! It was amazing!!

Sunday was more Conference! We had Stake Conference at Maglegårds Alle 83, where we saw all the Sjælland missionaries again. The Stake Presidency was reorganized as well. It was a good conference. We were luckily able to drive with Torben and Vicki Valgren. That evening, we ate dinner with Elder and Sister Sorensen and Elder and Sister Flake. It was pretty fun! They all temple missionaries, so they take good care of us.

Spiritual thought: This week has been full of super cool little connections! Both where I was able to connect to Troels Jepsen and confirm some decisions he is making. And then also being able to have such a powerful and simple lesson with Alf. It was just an awesome testimony to me that God is in the details of our lives! He really does arrange things to our benefit if we will follow His lead. Trust in Him, and He will direct your paths! And what gorgeous and joyful paths they are!!

I hope you all have a wonderful week!!

All Mission Conference

All mission conference

(Taken from Mission Blog)

This week, the Icelandic elders and seniors flew to Denmark to join us at the all mission conference! The area president, President Johnson, and an area 70, Elder Tunnicliffe, taught us and all missionaries loved seeing each other.

Ett kort besök i Sverige (A Short visit to Sweden)

Translation to Danish (because I don't speak Swedish very well): Et kort besøg i Sverige
Translation to English (because that's effective in Sweden if they talk too fast to understand knowing only Danish): A Short Visit to Sweden

Monday started as a normal week! We did some contacting and stopped by a guy who said we should try in the morning. But he opened the door and explained that he had just called the Ambulance and they were coming. So we gathered it wasn't the best time to talk... As we walked down the stairs, the paramedics were coming up and they asked us, confused, what we were doing there. We quickly said we just stopped by, but the man was waiting for them so they shouldn't worry about us! We visited Vor Frue Kirke, which is on Christianshavn and has a beautiful golden-trimmed, spiral, tower. It was gorgeous weather as well, so we could see everything very clearly! Then we headed in to København to go bowling, but plans changed and we ended up eating MAX Burger with the Sisters from Nykøbing Falster.

Tuesday was strange! We had Physical Therapy for Ældste Throckmorton again, so we walked a bunch that morning. When we showed up for the appointment, I wasn't feeling very well so I was basically just zoned out. Afterwards, we hopped on a bus to take it to Kongens Nytorv where we could switch to the Metro. Once we got off the bus, I started walking towards a small side street to hopefully find a trash can, and Ældste Throckmorton followed me, confused where I was going. All in all, there wasn't a trash can, but there was a storm drain, so I threw up in a storm drain! Then we caught the Metro and came home to Amager! I took a short nap when we got home, but we otherwise went out to visit some people with Pres. Henrik Olsen. I felt fine the rest of the day, so no worries there.

Wednesday morning, we biked in to Frederiksberg for District Council, which the Zone Leaders and Sister Training Leaders talked about selling the "Mulcher 5000" but didn't give any good reasons why it was useful, or better, or helpful. Thus we discussed being bold and charitable in our contacts, not shying away from telling people the truth in order to help them. It was really good! After coming home, we went knocking and testified to everyone who opened the door! It felt good. :)

Thursday was pretty sweet! We went out contacting that morning and had some awesome conversations! One man, Rasmus, talked with us for a while. He hadn't thought much about religion before, but had recently started reading the Bible and has since read everyday because he thinks it's so helpful! We also got in touch with Isamar, the Venezualan mom! They were out of town, so we couldn't get a hold of them before. But she's super happy and wants to meet! So we have good contact with her.

Friday was awesome! We woke up super early and biked to the airport. Then we took a train from Denmark to Sweden! We had to switch trains in Malmø to Ystad, Sweden where Ældste Throckmorton unfortunately lost his backpack on the train... But we enjoyed trying to understand Swedish people! It's a hit and miss where we can completely understand some people, but others sound just like weird sounds and some Danish words. Then we took a ferrie to Rønne, Bornholm. We ate breakfast with the Bornholm Elders (Ældste Gottfredson and Ældste McKinnon) along with Ældste and Søster Hess. They're all super awesome, so life was just peachy! Ældste McKinnon and I also ate at a member, Lene's house before going out to Sorthat to knock. It was pouring rain and we were completely soaked, but the El-cykler (electric bikes) were super fun to ride! We had a super hyggeligt evening with Exploding Kittens and Tropical Salsa Porkchops. (Very impressed with their dinner!)

Saturday started wonderfully with a good morning run around the beach and harbor! Ældste Throckmorton rode a bike because he didn't have any running shoes. but then we hopped on the ferrie and headed back to Sweden. We ate some MAX Burger in Ystad and then came back to Denmark! We had just enough time to have personal study before we headed out to Ballerup to eat with Henrik and Hannah Olsen! And guess who shows up there, Hannah's parents! Ravnhild and Verner Korgaard! That was super exciting because Ældste Throckmorton and I both have served in Skive! 'Twas super fun! Also a long day with lots of travel.

Sunday turned out well. We had church where we taught the YSA/English Sunday School class. It was super cool. We also had SOS afterwards, which was fun! Then Ældste Throckmorton and I went out contacting before we had to come in and do Weekly Planning.

Spiritual thought! I had a cool experience while teaching Sunday School. We were talking about the Widow of Nain who lost her son (Luke 7) when Christ comes and tells her not to weep and then raises him from the dead in the middle of the burial parade. One of the (senior) Sister missionaries pointed out the compassion that Christ had on the widow who was suffering the loss of her son. As she spoke, I was reminded that she had also lost one of her sons back when he had been serving on a mission. Hearing this Sister's testimony of Christ's compassion and love towards us was deep and personal because it not only happened in a story, but had happened for her. It struck me as a strong reminder that the scriptures are not just stories! They are actual people! They really did happen! And those kinds of people have those kinds of problems today! The gospel is not just a great idea to discuss, it literally changes lives of those who use it! It can change your life! It really is true, and I'm grateful that I can testify that I've seen it change me and those who I've been privileged to help along the way. The Savior truly does live! He truly does watch and bless you. He loves you! Don't forget that.
